What is Forest School ?

Forest School is a child-centred and play-based learning approach, inspired by studies of early years education in Danish schools.  It all happens outdoors in a natural environment with trees, through hands-on experiences.

Understanding and supporting children's individual interests and need is central to Forest School, as well as encouraging awareness of the world around us. Through child-led play, children are motivated to learn by following their interests, matching activities with preferred learning styles and small manageable tasks. They take ownership of their learning, gain confidence and motivation, social and practical skills and a bond with nature.

Whilst allowing children to take little and manageable risks, appropriate to the environment and themselves, Forest School also fosters resilience and self-reliance.

The proof is in the pudding, young children tend to love Forest School, and it spreads wellbeing for everyone involved!
